about

An eclectic mix of electronic music from The ROBOT Lab vaults.

Back in 1988 lo-fi ROBOT Boy began making electronic using an ol' Casio home keyboard and a 4-Track borrowed form his friend Craig. It wasn't too long before an FB-01, TR-707 and basic MIDI sequencer was added to the mix. Over the next five or six years lo-fi ROBOT produced dozens of tracks inspired by classic electronica of the 70's and 80's and influenced by contemporary video games and pop culture. All this music was sequenced on hardware synthesizers and recorded onto analogue tape. (lo-fi ROBOT Boy always favoured TDK cassettes and reels.)

That was the humble beginnings of what has now become The ROBOT Lab recording studio.

A couple years ago lo-fi ROBOT decided to pull out the three giant boxes of cassette tapes and 4-track masters and start digging through the contents. Pretty much everything was digitized and rerecorded. Wherever possible noise was removed and levels were bumped-up a bit but otherwise all the tracks remain as they were originally recorded.

This album is a collection of some of our favourite tracks. We hope you enjoy.

about

lo-fi ROBOT Boy British Columbia

lo-fi ROBOT Boy makes music using (mostly) 80s keyboards, synths, and drum machines collected from flea markets, yard sales, and the dusty back rooms of music shops. Everything has knobs, sliders & smells like ozone.

VSTs and blue LEDs be damned!
